California Franchise Tax Board loses $388 million verdict over residency argument

Many might say that the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) has been overly-aggressive in attempting to collect money from those who have legitimately left the state. Here, somebody sued the FTB over its tactics and won a huge verdict. Whether this stands up for this amount is extremely doubtful, but it does send a signal that the jury felt that the FTB's conduct amounted to severe overreaching.
